Center Stage Recaps: Anthropic
Follow along as we go through the Center Stage sessions of HumanX 2025 in-depth. Next up is Anthropic’s guide to the AI galaxy, which took place Monday 3/10/2025.
Next up in our HumanX 2025 Center Stage recaps is a special fireside chat from Day One titled Anthropic CPO Mike Krieger's guide to the AI galaxy in 2025. This talk was moderated by Alex Heath of The Verge and featured special guest speaker Mike Krieger, CPO of Anthropic (but you already knew that, didn’t you?).
Focusing on the particular scope of Anthropic, a company that specializes in building safe and reliable AI systems, Anthropic's guide to the AI galaxy highlighted the importance of continuous improvement, transparency, and collaboration in driving the AI industry forward.
Let’s take a close look at the main talking points.
Anthropic’s Vision
Anthropic's current vision, according to Mike Krieger, is building and training advanced models while developing vertical experiences that extend beyond single-turn tasks. During the session, Krieger showcased Anthropic’s Cloud Code–a terminal-based software that is designed to facilitate integration among existing AI tools. Cloud Code attracted approximately 100,000 users shortly after launch.
Krieger also discussed Anthropic's partnership with Amazon to enhance Alexa's capabilities, noting the rapid optimization achieved through collaboration. He expressed interest in exploring similar partnerships with other companies to broaden AI applications globally.
Limitations of AI
Just as significant as the potential AI is its limitations and abilities that need improvement. One such limitation that Krieger pointed out was AI’s capability (or lack thereof) to process images. Additionally, Krieger mentioned the ongoing efforts to enhance multimodal AI agents and tools.
These areas, if perfected, could lead to greater, smoother AI applications across industries–but we’re not there just yet.
Hype and Caution
Regarding AI safety, Krieger emphasized reducing unnecessary refusals, noting that Anthropic’s own Claude 3.7 Sonnet cut refusals by 45%.
Moreover, Krieger discussed the ever controversial topic of balancing caution and innovation as AI develops. He advised founders to focus on solving tangible, real-world problems rather than getting distracted by technology hype.
The Challenges Ahead
Krieger addressed two important gaps within the current AI landscape: high costs and low transparency gaps. In particular, Krieger noted that AI’s high costs and current constraints are shaped by GPU availability and lack of transparent research models.
This fireside discussion provided a comprehensive overview of Anthropic’s projects and hopes for the near-future, but more than that, it served as a challenge, emphasizing the importance of continuous improvement, honesty, and collaboration in driving the AI industry forward.
